The U. S. Department of Transportation’s (USDOT) ITS Joint Program Office (ITS JPO) congratulates Ms. Suzanne Sloan Eichman, the recipient of the 2010 Volpe Center Excellence in Public Service Award. This is the highest level of recognition conferred annually on a Volpe Center staff member to honor his/her achievements, work ethic, and innovative ideas that made significant contributions to the transportation enterprise.
Among the many significant contributions Suzanne has made over the last year, she played a key role in the development of the USDOT’s ITS Strategic Plan, 2010-2014, unveiled during the 89th Transportation Research Board (TRB) Annual Meeting in January 2010. This Plan presents a compelling vision for transforming travel in the United States, leading to greater safety, enhanced mobility and reduced environmental impacts. Suzanne also led the development and deployment of the final version of the Strategic Plan as an interactive web tool and is spearheading its integration and launch as part of the ITS Program’s primary Website. Suzanne accomplished this work while continuing to lead and support numerous other projects, including the development of the ITS Strategic Plan for Transit, and in the areas of ITS Professional Capacity Program and the IntelliDriveSM Policy Research Program. Her accomplishments over the years and continued contributions to the ITS Program make Suzanne a great asset to the Research and Innovative Technology Administration (RITA) - the home of the ITS JPO - and to the USDOT as a whole. The ITS JPO staff and senior management are proud to see Suzanne earn this recognition for her knowledge, high-quality technical work, judgment, initiative and ability to think strategically and innovatively.
