Project Title:   EMERGENCY ROOM LINK - TUCSON, ARIZONA

Project Status:   In Progress

Project Type:   Deployment/Integration

Project Description:   This project is the FY 2001 ITS Integration Program earmark for Tucson, AZ. Emergency Room Link-Tucson (ER Link-Tucson) allows doctors to be virtually transported from a hospital emergency room into an ambulance. Emergency dispatchers are provided the capability to view incident sites to support assessment and assignment of emergency responders. Phase I of this project will enable video and voice teleconferencing between the University of Arizona Medical Center and Advanced Life Support (ALS) ambulances of the Tucson Fire Department. The system facilitates two-way audio and video communications between attending paramedics in ambulances and emergency room medical personnel at the hospital. This is accomplished using traffic control infrastructure. The use of video from a mobile platform is a new technology. This system's goals are to expedite ER medical assistance to victims, and clear crash sites as quickly as possible to reduce the potential for secondary incidents.
