9.3 Criteria for System Selection
Respondents noted that the following criteria (listed in order of decreasing frequency) were used in choosing the hardware and software for their systems:
- Functionality;
- Designed by the project team (partners);
- Approached by vendor;
- Cost;
- Similar system/components used successfully in another location;
- Vendor experience;
- Specified by consultant/staff;
- First of its kind – nothing else available;
- Ease of installation;
- Compatibility with other systems;
- Best of a number of candidates;
- Availability;
- Track record; and,
- Cost effectiveness.
