Project Description:   This project addressed target crash problem size assessment and statistical descriptions. The goals of this project were to: (1) analyze existing NHTSA and state accident databases to determine vehicle, driver, and environmental contributing factors (and their interactions) and characteristics of target crashes of conventional and ITS crash avoidance countermeasures, and (2) assess the effects of existing vehicle design features on the incidence and severity of crashes in the "real world."
